| Welcome | . | Demonstrations - Workshops - Lectures Public Participation demonstration: Throughout this informal demo, I invite two or three viewers at a time to actually experience bamboo painting with me while I continue to paint for the audience and explain basic asian painting techniques including brush loading for one stroke color. I also "show and tell" my collection of brushes, inksticks, inkstones, papers and seals. Parent & Child workshop: Painting together is a wonderful family experience. The way in which I teach the body language techniques of painting bamboo make it a great equalizer. Parents with little or no artistic experience as well as children of all ages find it comfortable and fun; most important, participants are very satisfied with their creations. Workshop families take home paintings as well as the basic tools to continue on their own. The Zen of Painting workshop: For both experienced artists and beginners, I use a liberating non-cerebral approach to painting. I emphasize the body language of asian painting and the zen of painting from within. Participants will experience a variety of techniques including work with non-dominant hand, painting with eyes closed, meditation and partner painting. The workshop includes painting bamboo and spontaneous gestural painting. The Power of the Brush lecture:The impact of Chinese calligraphy on American painters is strong. In this slide lecture, I illustrate and discuss the influences of this asian writing/painting artform on several modern painters with an emphasis on the abstract expressionists. |
